Parent Coaching
A tailored approach to empowering families
Currently accepting parent coach clients
Parenting is one of the most rewarding and most challenging journeys you will ever experience. One that comes with no instructions, no blueprint, and often no support. Amanda offers parent coaching from a therapeutic perspective as a way to help you feel supported and well equipped for the marathon that is parenthood.
When children have problems, sometimes they don’t have the words to talk about them. Play gives children a way to communicate feelings they don’t understand or can’t express any other way. Play therapy techniques have been shown to be an effective intervention with children for a variety of behavioral and emotional difficulties.
Parent coaching can address the following concerns:
Childhood development and how parenting strategies can be applied to each stage
Toddler tantrums (dis-regulation)
Navigating different neurodivergent identities under one roof
understanding your neurodivergent child
Improving the parent child connection
Improving communication between parents and teens
Supporting parents and children through tough transitions such as divorce or grief
Managing difficult household dynamics such as adding new family members through birth or marriage.
Helping families to cope and thrive when a loved one has a mental illness.
Helping families to cope and thrive when a family member has sensory processing disorder or other neurodivergent identities.
Helping families to have fun and enjoy each other's company again.
Parent Coaching from a therapeutic perspective can:
Reduce or eliminate behavior problematic interactions between parent and child
Enhance the parent-child relationship and the marital relationship
Develop responsibility and self-control in children (and parents)
Increase parent's and children’s self-esteem and self-confidence
Increase parents’ feelings of warmth for their children
Therapeutic Parent Training can be done on its own or as a part of the play therapy process. The atmosphere is friendly and accepting and the training interactive, making it enjoyable and interesting.
Some of the things you will learn include:
How to help your child open up to you
Therapeutic limit-setting
Recognizing emotional needs and building self-esteem
Fostering creativity, self-control, and self-responsibility for both parent and child.
How your past experiences may be influencing the way you parent and how to offer healing to both yourself and your child.
“The attitude you have as a parent is what your kids will learn from more that what you tell them. They don’t remember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are” ------Jim Henson
Amanda also offers a variety of parenting presentations that can be done in both lecture and interactive class format to individuals and groups.
